Volunteers are amazing! You may want to help out in a class or at an event or field trip. Start the process as soon as possible to ensure you're ready to volunteer when we need you!
All school meetings are a big part of the Mary Hogan community! Students learn how to be in community, listen, and cheer each other on. Each all-school meetings are lead by one grade level and the parents of that grade are invited to attend. Students who lead the meeting will share about many things from classroom learning, to IB learner profile traits like how to be thinkers, communicators, or inquirers. They may share recent learning about a topic like water, or the Chinese new year. They may also teach us a new skill, like how to say good morning in sign language or lead us in a new game like Simon Says based on things they've discovered! We are often joined by community partners and our own Mary Hogan Hawk mascot! The preschool and kindergarteners always get to sit up front and the 5th graders have the privilege of sitting in the chairs along the side and back.

At Mary Hogan, we utilize the Responsive Classroom approach to teaching. This approach combines engaging academics, positive community, effective management, and developmentally appropriate teaching. We are working hard to use this approach each day with our students. It aligns well with the ideas and Approaches to Learning in the Primary Years Program. Each week, we will be sharing a bit about Responsive Classroom with you. This week, there is a quick overview of it below. You can check out more of their videos here.
Keewaydin Environmental Education Center (KEEC) is a 5th grade tradition at Mary Hogan. The students leave on Monday morning for a full week of learning and adventures on Lake Dunmore. Students grow tremendously during the week of sleeping in cabins as well as participating in study groups about the watershed, soil cycle, and more.

Students grow tremendously during the week of sleeping in cabins as well as participating in study groups about the watershed, soil cycle, and more. Students help serve at meals, clear tables, clean the dishes. They give a weather report in the morning and keep track of the food waste at each of the meals.
In 2023 Students went swimming in Lake Dunmore (brrr!), explored to the source of a stream, learned how to canoe, tried rock climbing, hiked, created skits, and so much more. THANK YOU to the parent chaperones and amazing staff who volunteered so many hours to make this trip a smashing success!
